SABIS University awards ICDL certificates to 16 students in Kurdistan

ICDL GCC Foundation, the governing body and certification authority of the International Computer Driving Licence (ICDL) programme in the Gulf region and Iraq, has announced that it is extending further support to the educational sector as a catalyst for change in education. Following the successful introduction of ICDL in 2001 by UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) with the aim to enhance capability in Arab States through the promotion of computer literacy, the ICDL certification programme has become the de facto standard for ICT education, endorsed across the region by education ministries and academic institutions for the benefit of teachers and students. 30 per cent of the GCC youth face persistent unemployment ICDL GCC Foundation points to ICT skills as key to balancing job market in world’s second youngest regional population
With more than half of its natives under the age of 25, the GCC and MENA areas have the second youngest population among world regions. Many employable youths here still do not have jobs due to the prevailing preference for public sector employment among young nationals, limited participation of female professionals, as well as a predominantly expatriate population and workforce. Recent figures place Oman and Bahrain at the top with unemployment rates as high as 15 percent each, followed by Saudi Arabia at 10.8 percent. Figures are lower in Kuwait and UAE at 2.4 and 2.2 percent respectively. Although Qatar has the lowest rate at 0.5 percent, experts warn that future trends point towards an escalation rather than a decline. More

The show takes place on 25 & 26 October 2011 in Abu Dhabi and hosts ICDL in Hall 8 at stand C55, where it will conduct special presentations about its various program offerings such as e-citizen, ICDL START, ICDL and Advanced, while highlighting the success of its strategic alliances with education authorities and governments in reforming the education system and implementing IT-readiness programs.More

Qualifying academic institutions to offer subsidized ICDL Certification to their students
University students across the GCC region are poised to benefit from subsidized ICDL training and certification following the broadening of scope of the ICDL Fund for Development Programmes (IFDP).
